Social Graph API from Google makes information about public inter-relations between people on the internet available in a easy to use format.

Google crawls the web to gather declared relations between people’s accounts (linked through XFN and FOAF). The API returns JSON data structures representing the social relationships.

This gives new and upcoming networks to easily provide people to bring in their friends to their network.

This can make it easy for users to bring their existing social connections into a new website and as a result, users will spend less time rebuilding their social networks and more time giving your app the love it deserves.

In the video above Brad Fitzpatrick explains about Google Social Graph API.

What is XFN?

XFN outlines the relationships between individuals by defining a small set of values that describe personal relationships. In HTML and XHTML documents, these are given as values for the rel attribute on a hyperlink.

What is FOAF?

The Friend of a Friend (FOAF) project is creating a Web of machine-readable pages describing people, the links between them and the things they create and do.
